The Danish Gambling Authority, Spillemyndigheden, has had its bid to have 49 websites, that were offering illegal gambling blocked, approved by the District Court.

On 14 July 2023, the Copenhagen City Court ruled in favour of the Danish Gambling Authority in all 49 cases that had been brought to light, which has only been made public now.

This moment is the ninth time that the Danish Gambling Authority has turned to the court to block illegal gambling websites. The regulator has blocked a total of 276 illegal sites since 2012.

The websites have been operating illegally by supplying betting and iCasino to Danish players without a licence.

To become a legal operator in Denmark, all gambling operators with a Danish licence must have the Danish Gambling Authority's label placed visibly on their website and all marketing material.

If the Danish Gambling Authority discovers sites offering illegal gambling, the regulator will make them aware of the violation and will ask them to stop the illegal offer.

Therefore, slots if the illegal website does not stop, the Danish Gambling Authority will then ask the District Court to have the illegal sites blocked.

Despite previously blocking sites annually, the Danish Gambling Authority now has plans to block illegal websites twice a year.

Director of the Danish Gambling Authority, Anders Dorph, commented: "It is a very important task for the Danish Gambling Authority to ensure that Danes are not exposed to gambling that is offered illegally in Denmark and that does not comply with the requirements for consumer protection, among other things, set out in the gambling legislation."
